With a wood-engraved coloured frontispiece and 41 full-page plates numbered and coloured by hand. Bound in red half-cloth, covers of marbled paper, edges blue, beautiful decorative endleaves. A very rare work of the utmost interest, aimed to explain to the children the stages and events of life as well as the various professions. The work is illustrated with 41 full-page woodcuts by Elias Porcelius, mostly after Susanna Maria Sandrart, and all of them were entirely contemporary hand-coloured. Among the professions represented there is the bookbinder (p. XVI), the doctor (p. XXIX), the acrobats, the baker, the carpenter, the soldier, the merchant, the tailor, the shoemaker, the butcher, the furrier, the dyer, the weaver, the ironsmith, the smith, the joiner, the hunter, etc., events include birth, education, death, etc., as well as fencing (p. XXXIV), sleighing, hunting, etc. Below each plate is a short description in German. First published in 1689, the present work was reprinted many times until 1853. A fine copy of this beautiful book about trades and education, finely illustrated and coloured for the children.
