The most beautiful illustrated edition of the 18th century of Jauffret’s Charmes de l’enfance illustrated with a frontispiece and 5 figures in first state by Monnet engraved by Delaunay, Gaucher and Ingouf (Cohen, 517).
An exceptional copy, printed on large vellum paper, decorated with the frontispiece with proof before the letter and the figures in double state. All the figures are here in double state: – figure page 35 of the 1st part: with proof before the letter and etching. – figure page 70 of the 1st part: with proof before the letter and before the signature, etching before the signature. – figure page 100 of the 1st part: with proof before the letter and etching. – figure page 14 of the 2nd part: with proof before the letter and etching. – figure page 108 of the 2nd part: with proof before the letter and etching before the signature.
Whereas the first 1791 edition was sold for 5 to 6 francs, this edition was sold 15 to 20 francs. (Cohen)
A superb copy in its very fine contemporary red morocco bindings.
Provenance: from the library du Bourg de Bozas with ex libris.
