First edition and first issue of this extraordinary baroque collection of 84 engravings in superb contemporary coloring representing men and women dressed with the tools of their profession. The engravings are signed by A. Degmeier, P. F. Engelbrecht, C. F. Hörmann, Kösler, J. F. Schmit, J. Stelzer.
Martin Engelbrecht engraver, born in Augsburg in 1684, died in the same city in 1756 , is the brother of Christian Engelbrecht. He illustrated like him numerous works. Among these are : La guerre de succession espagnole, and Les Architectes princiers, by P. Decker. He also executed 92 views of Venice and 192 rocaille engravings representing men and women dressed with the tools of their profession. This famous set, created almost three centuries ago, was already very rare in contemporary coloring at its time of publication, and became even rarer during the following centuries because of the passion for this exceptional work that reminded the professions of Larmessin executed shortly before. Since the 19th century, amateurs had to get used to collect these engravings per unit and to have them framed. Even reduced to the unit, they tend to disappear from the market. To present such a set of 84 engravings in contemporary coloring nowadays at the beginning of the 21th century is a bibliophilic privilege.
